Z is for Zoos
Zoos and Aquariums provide us with so much more than meets the eye Love Your Zoo & Love Your Aquarium will be back for 2026 between 25-29 May. Love Your Zoo/Aquarium week is an annual nationwide event which coincides with May half-term where BIAZA members hold a range of activities to promote the important work they do in nature conservation, education, research and more. Last year's theme was 'Allies for Wildlife' - the collaborations which underpin conservation, how zoos and aquariums support species together, and form incredible partnerships all over the world. The theme for 2026 is 'In our Nature' - the staff, volunteers and communities who support zoos and aquariums to thrive and inspire the next generation of conservationists.
2026 is also a special anniversary year as The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums is celebrating its 60th year in 2026! From founding as The Federation of Zoological Gardens of Great Britain and Ireland in 1966, BIAZA has gone on to represent over a hundred zoos and aquariums across the British Isles, championing best practice in animal welfare, conservation, education, and research.
